Job Description

Position: School Nurse

Reports to CEO/Superintendent

Employment Status: Part Time as needed

Compensation: 28.38 an hour as needed.

Reports to New Philadelphia Office Location

Minimum Availability Requirements:

August - October: Must be available a minimum of three (3) days per week.

January: Must be available a minimum of one (1) day per week.

Approximately three (3) hours per day.

Overview

  • Conduct hearing, vision, scoliosis and blood pressure screenings, and make referrals as needed
  • Maintain up-to-date health records for students. Act as health consultant for teachers, students,
    curriculum, school, health and community agencies
  • Acts as liaison between school district and the medical community
  • Assist in disease control programs by enforcing local and state immunization laws, screening for lice
    and other communicable diseases as needed
  • Act as consultant, health educator and counselor to promote disease prevention and healthy lifestyles
    for students, staff, and parents
  • Keep records updated and organized
  • Observe ethics of the nursing profession; exhibit professional behavior, emotional stability and sound
    judgment, and maintain confidentiality
  • Provide staff with necessary student health information on an “as needed” to know basis
  • Report all cases of child abuse and neglect to the proper authorities
  • Make contact with the public with tact and diplomacy
  • Maintain respect at all times for confidentiality information e.g., medical records, IEP’s
  • Interact in a positive manner with staff, students and parents
  • Promote good public relations
  • Attend meetings and in-services as required
  • Participate in local and state seminars
  • Attend meetings and professional development as required
  • Make reports of communicable disease outbreaks to the county health department as required by law.
  • Oversee the training of school staff as needed e.g. CPR, AED, universal precautions
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor

Minimum Requirements

  • A school nurse is a bachelor’s degree-prepared Registered Nurse (RN) with additional education
    leading to an Ohio Department of Education pupil services license, specifically, the one-year temporary
    school nurse license, five-year professional school nurse license or school nurse wellness coordinator
    endorsement.

The ideal candidate will also:

  • Previous experience with school nursing
  • School nurse license
